With a Torch of Seven Virtues

2nd Place Kennedy Center's Latinx Playwriting Award
Picture
Picture
Synopsis: Imelda is moving. Help comes to assist in her move, but the timing is all wrong, as the threat of a hurricane puts a timetable on how quickly she needs to move out and move forward.
Cast Size: 7 characters
In the piece, all the women are said to be Puerto Rican but any Spanish-speaking, female-identifying actor can play the role. Cast diversely shaped and skin-toned women. This matters because Latin people, Puerto Ricans especially, are richly diverse.
  • IMELDA, Female, 30-45 years old. An amalgamation of all these women. An earth sign (Capricorn, Virgo, or Taurus).
  • INEZ, Female, 18 years old. The Youth. Eager to make everyone proud.
  • ARACELI, Female, 25-45 years old. The Artist. Taina to her core.
  • DULCE, Female, 25-45 years old. The Lover. Afro-boricua is best!
  • CLARA, Female, 25-45 years old. The Accountant. Lighter skin, assimilated af.
  • MARIANA, Female, 35-50 years old. The Mother. Hips don't lie. Food tells the truth.
  • XIOMARA, Female, 25-45 years old. The Cynic. Heart of fire. Mouth of spice.
