Powerstories Theatre Women Playwright Showcase
March is Women’s History Month and Powerstories Theatre celebrated the month in 2018 in a unique way. The first ever Shevolution Fest! at Powerstories Theatre offered the use of their theatre to local women playwrights, for the opportunity to produce their work on their stage. Gretchen Suarez-Pena was invited by Powerstories Theatre as part of this exciting opportunity and produced a stage reading of her new show Conversations in the Car on March 17th, 2018. Conversations in the Car was selected to be featured as one of the full length plays in the 2018 Tampa Bay Theatre Festival.
Synopsis:
From road trips to errands to traffic tickets, the car is the place where life happens. The conversations that happen here stay here. Four different cars are on the road, and the conversations that take place set the pace for life.

- JAVIER: Hispanic male, early 30’s, Cristina’s husband, never knows where he’s going. A pastor of a local church. (Originated by Omar Negron)
- CRISTINA: Hispanic female, early 30’s, Javier’s wife, always knows where she is going but drives terribly. (Originated by Lisa Negron)
- TAMARA: 30-40 years old, Cora’s Best friend, Edward’s ex-wife. (Originated by Katherine Pazda)
- CORA: 30-40 years old, Tamara’s best friend, a stressed-out mother with very bubbly personality. (Originated by Kimber Wiggs)
- KATHLEEN: early 40’s. A widow. Conor and Kimberly’s mother. (Originated by Naomi Kenney)
- KIMBERLY: 14-year-old, a snarky little sister. Doubles as Iris, Isaac’s twin sister. (Originated by Julie Newton)
